Do Your Research

by Noel Boehm on December 9th, 2007

If you are ever feeling confused or unsure about what’s in your beauty products, you’re in luck. Skin Deep: Cosmetic Safety Database is the place to get the skinny on what the ingredients are and if they are actually bad for you. You would be surprised the number of products labeled “organic” or “natural” that actaully are pretty high up there on the hazard meter. You can plug in the actual product or just search in a general catagory. If your makeup or soap has an ingredient that you can’t pronounce, let alone decipher, search under that specific ingredient. It rates products on a hazard scale. 0-2 is low hazard, 3-6 moderate and 7-10 high. They base their scores on things like skin irritating ingredients, fragrances and ingredients that have been linked to Cancer. It’s really eye opening. I’m of the mind set that I would like to see the information for myself and then I can make my own decision about using a product. I just hate when companies lie and try to decieve people using marketing. Like change the Tide packaging to a natural color, add some lavender and put “Naturals” in a lovely script and suddenly it’s so green you could practically drink it…riiight. Okay I’ll get off my soap box for now. I demand that you check it out for yourself. Yes, demand.
