Organic Claims and the Controversy.

by Teri on February 20th, 2007

Did you know that a product can make an Organic claim with only 70% Organic ingredients? The other 30% of ingredients must come from an approved list of non-toxic ingredients.

While there is a list of approved non-toxic ingredients, the USDA and others in the personal care industry are embattled to figure out exactly which products should be approved for personal care products. I am sure this will take years to figure out to get “certified” approval.

What can you do in the interim? Read your labels. If your products contain 70% pure organic ingredients with the rest coming from plant based renewable resources, ingredients farmed and processed without chemicals, in a sustainable fair trade manner - then I would agree that they are organic.

Do you trust personal care products that are just 70% organic as truly organic?
