The Scented Life has a fantastic post today about natural and organic perfumes. Head on over to get a crash course in the differences between the two and a list of some great fragrances to try. Did you there was a Natural Perfumers Guild? Neither did I. *Crawling back under my rock now*

This month from Saffron Rouge I got a nice little sampler of Jurlique products. I have only had to chance to actually
try the Citrus Hand cream and I absolutely LOVE it. So lux and creamy, it left my hands feeling really soft but not greasy. They do not have a rating on Skin Deep but you can look up individual ingredients if you are ever in doubt about something.
At $49.00 dollars a pop for the larger size, I’m not sure it’s something I would buy on a regular basis but certainly if I were looking to treat myself or for a gift maybe. The scent is very subtle and you can only catch a little whiff of it here and there after a while. Have you tried any Jurlique products? If so what do you think?

I am so all about body scrubs especially ones with brown sugar. This one from Nature Girl looks so incredible I think I might eat it if it was in my shower. I used to have a sugar scrub WAY back in like the 90’s that I was obsessed with. I couldn’t possibly tell you the name of it (I drank too much booze in college to remember). I know it was brown sugar, vanilla and orange scented and left my skin SO soft and silky it was insane. I moved out of state and couldn’t find it anymore so I would occasionally whip up my own. My recipe consisted of brown sugar, crushed almonds (really finely crushed), whatever oil You might have on hand, Vitamin E oil and orange zest.
A small batch of this would last me about two weeks when kept in the fridge. I would imagine that you could add essential oils of your choosing and whatever else and it would be fantastic. Oh and it makes your bathroom smell like cake.

Erm…okay where do I start? Has anyone read the book Gorgeously Green? I cannot comment on how helpful or well written the book is since I have not had the chance to check it out. I will just comment on the website. Something about it just rubs me the wrong way. Could it be the rampant Target plugs or maybe the cheeky oversimplifications? Don’t get me wrong, I luuuurve Target. It just makes it hard to take advice from someone who is so clearly in bed with a company and trying to maximize profits. Simply going out to Target and buying only organic cotton or bamboo sheets is not the eco-friendliest solution. Bamboo this, organic that, it all comes at a price.
This one particularly rubs me the wrong way since I’m a mother. She suggests we purchase organic baby food …from you guessed it Target. Really? Gerber slaps a new font and organic on a jar of green beans and, suddenly it’s an entirely new product wrapped in fallen leaves and delivered by the ORGANIC MOBILE that runs on pure goodness and sunshine. I feel like the green revolution message is getting mangled to suit a select group of people. The “Let’s consume less and make smarter choices” has been drowned out and now all I can hear is, “Buy more stuff. Take the blue pill it’s organic!”
I think the true message can be summed up in the phrase BE INFORMED. Make the best choice for you and your family based on real information. Don’t listen to what lotion I think is great, make the right choice for you. Every choice has an impact and there is no such thing as totally green or totally eco-friendly. Think about what resources or energy that might have gone into your next purchase and then consider if there could have been a better option for you. I won’t poo-poo the whole thing, there actually are some informative articles and the message boards might be a good place to talk to other people and get input. Not quite sure where I was going with this but I had to voice it. Opinionated, hypocritical rant over.

I know it’s a little like beating a dead horse by now but boy do I love Etsy. I wanted to share with you some of the stuff I’m craving…today. I know consumption, must.resist. These look like such a great idea for exfoliating. I used to use those disposable one-use facial cloths but I finally realized how silly that was. They are really great in a pinch though. These would also be great if you squirted a little soap on them and took them with you, then wet them when you’re ready to wash your face. Do you thin that would work? I’m trying to figure it out hmmm. Also they’re just too cute. It would make me feel better at least to wash my face with one of these in the morning.
Speaking of revitalizing facial treatments, um how AMAZING does this stuff look? Me want, me must have. Dead Sea mud, organic lavender…I’m there. I am all about the clay mask since my face becomes this ridiculous mess in the summer. I don’t glisten. I have never glistened. I don’t look dewy. I just look sweaty and greasy. Help is on the way.

I hope everyone has a great 4th, drink lots of water if it’s hot where you are. Yes, I’m the hydration nazi. Oh and let’s try to make this a paper plate and disposable cup free party day. Tell everyone to bring their own dishes and drive safely. Don’t burn anyone with fireworks or something.

Here’s a great article over at Planet Green about what to look for in soaps and why it pays to make your own soap. It’s no secret that I loves me some soaps. Etsy, The Bubble Roome, LUSH, etc., it just makes me v. happy. I just simply don’t have the time or energy to make my own soap. I make most of my own household cleaning supplies and baby butt cleaning agents and there just isn’t more time in my day. Heck, there’s barely enough time in my day to actually shower so when I do I want a transcendent experience. Dove is just not going to take me there…sorry. What say you? What’s your favorite soap. The one that wakes you up for the day or winds you down after a grueling week. Dish please.

Nothing reminds me of summer and my teen years like the smell of the ocean rolling in in the morning and Vanilla musk. I don’t know what it is with teenage girls and vanilla. I think it’s written into our genetic code or something. All 15 year old girls must smell like sugar cookies and pudding. I used Coty Vanilla Musk so much that the scent now makes me a little nauseous. I do however still like the faint aroma of vanilla, just as long as it’s subtle and not that sickeningly sweet sugar smell.
Imagine my glee when I found Kuumba Made’s Vanilla Musk at Whole Foods a few months ago. Kuumba Made fragrances are oil based and there are no petroleum based ingredients, alcohols, Parabens, Sulfites, Dipropolyne Glycol, dilutants, or animal products in their fragrances. The scent is so light and subtle that I love wearing it. It comes in a concentrated roll-on so you really only need like a dot here and a dab there. I guess I will always be a teenager at heart, stuck in the 90’s no less. Where’s a scrunchy and matching Keds when you need them.
For a chance to win a most decidedly adult fragrance, Badgly Mischka’s Fleurs de Nuit, check out Amy over at The Scented Life. All you have to do is read her original review of the perfume adn leave a comment. Schwag, yeah!

I have a really bad habit of obsessive hair brushing. Even when I’m not going anywhere I may walk into the bathroom and brush my hair 4-5 times a day. Does it look better? Um, no but it makes me feel better. “They” say that the best hairbrush to use is made with wood and boar bristles. My mom had one of those fancy schmancy ones and by golly if it didn’t feel like heaven. I don’t want to use a brush with boar bristles nor can I rationalize paying that much for one so I rely on a wood version. Hamadi makes a great all wood brush that is very similar to the one I have. I really don’t remember where I got it since I’ve had it for years but it’s all wood like this and totally massages my scalp and makes my hair less puffy. I’ll talk to you guys later, I have to go brush my hair now.
