Sugar is Bad, This Time in Moderation?

by Kim on January 4th, 2007

I spoke last night with a nutritionist friend of mine and she had a very different take on the sugar debate and that was, if you are in the present moment and really connected with what your body is needing and craving then you can make a sane decision on what you put in your mouth. The reason why she mentioned this was because I called her up panting about not being able to eat chocolate. So sad, I was jonesing for it. And if you’re jonesing for it, doesn’t it mean that there’s a problem? So she talked about stress as an eating-junk-trigger, she talked about living in a stressful city where we might actually need sweets because sweets are relaxing and she talked about fluidity and how we need different things at different times. I’m not convinced, though. I know she’s right and I theoretically think that working by the candle light of one’s own instinct is far superior to following external dictation, I guess I’m just too far away from those instincts or perhaps they are speaking Spanish and mine is rusty. I am going to take this under deep consideration. I think I need a massage and to meditate. How can you know what you need if you are not in the habit of listening and being present? So those are my two thoughts for you today. Last night I had whole wheat pasta and chopped tomato sauce with my broccoli and broiled salmon. I practically ate a whole plate of pasta. I think the important thing is to not go from 60 to 0 in one second. My friend reminded me that there is alot of fat and wheat in baked goods, so maybe I’ll just try to eat a few more whole grains in my day. One nice treat is a sweet potato with organic butter. I mean, I guess.

On a happy note, my skin is clearing up. I know it’s not time yet, but I’m totally into spring colors right now. I’m using Peach Spice blush from Max (Factor) and Orgasm lip gloss by Nars. I can’t help it! I’m excited about 2007. And global warming has done nothing for my desire to put on ruby-colored lips. Sadly. It never got to be Winter here.
