Tuesdays Tips - A Sweet Banana Face Mask.

by Teri on March 27th, 2007

graphic tuesdaystipWhile over a friends house recently, she was cleaning out her kitchen and threw away some old fruit. She had an over-ripe banana, and I wondered why she did not dispose of that as well. She said that she was saving it to mash up and make her own Banana Face Mask.

Being totally interested, she mixed up a small batch and we used it on our hands, but she swears it is the best facial mask she has ever used.

To make this mask, simply take a banana, ripe or over-ripe, peel it, and mash it up in a bowl. Then add granulated sugar stirring it to a medium consistency. Next, add a drop or two of almond or vanilla extract (sure to be in your kitchen cupboard) and keep mixing.

It almost feels like an exfoliant scrub when applied, but by mixing it around and into the skin, it adds much moisture while gently buffing away dead skin. As always, use common sense and keep the mask/mixture away from your eyes.

As I said, I only used it on my hands that time, and they were extremely smooth after I used it. I was so happy with the smooth results that I did not need my normal night time hand cream treatment that evening.

Hello, I am an esthetician and was curious about the use of vanilla and almond extract. They might give a bit of reaction to ones skin. The banana face mask should be elightful on its own.

I do need to caution people when making anything on their own, as everyone’s skin is different. But just as well,we can have a reaction to a commercially bought product.

I always preach common sense caution!

I will definetly try this. I tried a bannana hair mask recipe I found once, but the banana would not come out of my hair when it was time to rinse! I should have an easier time with it as a facial mask though, thanks for the tip!

That it too funny, Maryam. I know you will love it on your face.
